Gerhard Schröder is a German politician who served as the chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005. He was born on April 7, 1944, in Mossenberg-Wöhren, Germany. Schröder began his political career in the 1970s as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). He was a member of the Bundestag (German parliament) from 1980 to 1986 and from 1990 to 2005.
In 1998, Schröder became the chancellor of Germany after leading the SPD to victory in the federal election. As chancellor, he implemented a number of significant reforms, including tax cuts, pension reforms, and labor market reforms. He also opposed the Iraq War and supported the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
After leaving office in 2005, Schröder became a consultant for several companies, including the Russian energy giant Gazprom. This role has led to controversy, as some have accused him of being too close to the Russian government.
Schröder is also a staunch advocate for renewable energy and has spoken out about the need for Germany to phase out nuclear power. He has also been an outspoken critic of the current conservative government led by Angela Merkel.
